About Katsuren jo site
Katsuren Castle Ruins are located on a hill at the base of the Katsuren Peninsula in the central part of Okinawa Island. Katsuren Castle is famous as the residence of Amawari, a powerful local lord who resisted the Ryukyu Kingdom during the period of its consolidation.
In 2000, Katsuren Castle Ruins were registered as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites under "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu." Known as an impregnable castle due to its use of natural cliffs, Katsuren Castle's gracefully curved walls evoke a sense of artistic beauty.
From the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the cobalt-blue Pacific Ocean, making it one of Okinawa's most scenic spots.
We invite you to visit Katsuren Castle Ruins and experience the history of the Ryukyu era. For more details, please visit the dedicated Katsuren Castle website.
Enjoy the one-of-a-kind Uruma view from the historic Gusuku.
